Skysimulations DC-9: Cabin Pressure

Featured Replies

Hi,I recently bought the SS DC-9 and am enjoying the nice 'feel' that this old jet provides; she's no PMDG but there's something 'right' about this aircraft and she's a lot of fun (and challenge) to fly.I am having one problem - with Pressurization - and I can't find the answer from the 2 manuals that came with the DC9.How does one set Cabin pressure? The manual isn't in too clear English in this regard and is confusing in terms of how the cabin pressurization should be set up. I can see the knob that controls 'cabin altitude' and the knob that sets 'Cabin Rate Increase' level, but what is the formula for setting these ?The manual alludes that Cabin Altitude should be set at 1000 feet above the destination airfields alt. No problems there. But how do I know what to set the 'Cabin Rate Increase' knob to ?Although it's not affecting my flight in terms of operating the aircraft, I am getting a "CABIN PRESS" Master Warning of every flight.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks,David.

Hi David.First you have to set the desired altitude at the cabin pressure altitud selector. For example if you set fl210 the cabin press will be between 3-4 when you climbing the neddle on the cabin alt indicator will be rise if pass the 4 there will be a master warnlight show up.the simple turn the cabin press rate knob to the right until the neddle goes down and center the rate knob when the indicator (warning lights turn off) or if the needle on the cabin alt indicator is between 3-4.Sorry for my bad english

Thanks for your help Magaven.I'm a still quite unclear on what I need to do though. Are you saying that I don't make any adjustments to the two settings, before the flight, I just adjust the cabin rate, once in the air, to bring the rate at the right level, so the Master Warning goes off ?Maybe it would help if I gave an example;Let's say the following are the 'values' for my flight in the DC-9 :-- Departure airfield is 0 feet above sea level. - Destination airfield is 1000 feet above sea level.- My cruise alitude is going to be FL280.Can you confirm, what settings I need to make on the pressuraization panel, for the above ? (So I don't get the 'CABIN PRESS' master warning).many thanks again for the help.David.
