August 27, 200916 yr I keep trying to install FS9 on Vista, but everytime I try, when it gets to installing the .cab files off disk 4, I keep getting an error, telling me make sure my HD isn't full or the file isn't in use. It also changes with each install, the errored file...well, no way those files can be in use, and I have 300 GB free on my HD. How can this be fixed?

How can this be fixed?Firstly check that there are scratches on discs.if not, then I would advise you to remove any partially installed fs2004 files ( go in your microsoft games directory and delete any flight simulator 9 folder if there is any) and use ccleaner(free) to clear everything. once done, restart your pc. now, create a temporary folder on your desktop and copy all the files found on the 4 cds in that folder. Make sure that when u insert the disc, u click on cancel if it runs the installation wizard. once copied, remove the disc, go in that temp. folder and run the setup from there. U will run through the installation wizard and proceed as normal. the installation will go through without the need of changing cds.hope this works for you.
