JS41 TCAS

Featured Replies

I was wondering why my tcas dosent show other aircraft. I was flying with a friend on vatsim today and I had him fly close to me to see if my tcas was working. I had the my screen is in full map and lnav and the tcas button was on. Not sure if im in the wrong screen or if it even matters. I did a search through the manuals on tcas but only found that i need to left click the button to turn it on and that was about it. No other information on the tcas system. Thanks for any help.Robert

Robert,On the RMU, press the PGE button. Highlight the TCAS field, and rotate the tuning knob so that MAN(UAL) appears in the field. Then you should see proximate traffic. The setting defaults to AUTO, which only displays threat (TA) aircraft.Regards,Nick

thanks Nick for the quick response I should have know that it was on the rmu. I guess I am just use to the way the big jets work for the tcas and wasnt thinking clearly. lol

Hey Nick so I check the rmu as you said had it in normal and also manual and auto and still never got a tcas alert for an 738 6nm from my right side at the same alt. Also tcas button said it was on I tried several different ranges but nothing ever showed up like in the diagrams in the manuals. I will keep working on it to see if it just takes some other tweaking that i need to do. thanks for your help.

Robert,I don't have the cash to buy UT2 (and I can't stand the default AI) so I've been flying without AI...hence I haven't tested the TCAS myself. I'll turn it on, and see if I can duplicate any problems. In the mean time, are you seeing ANY traffic in the EHSI TCAS mode? Are you seeing traffic but not getting any TA's?And just to verify, the J41 is only fitted with TCAS I, not TCAS II, so you will not receive any RA's.Regards,Nick

Ok, so I just checked it out (that poor Warrior had no idea what was going on!).Ensure that the transponder is set to "1 TA" on the RMU front page, and that the TA DISPL is set to MANUAL on the second page. Also ensure that the EHSI is in the TCAS mode. With these settings, I saw numerous TCAS returns in my vicinity. As I approached one aircraft, it's symbol reacted normally by turning into a filled yellow circle, and the boxed [T] appeared at the top of the EHSI.I did notice however, that I never received the expected "TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC" voice alert. I'll have to test this further to make sure I'm not missing anything, and I'll file a bug if necessary.Regards,Nick

Yeah I found the TA on the rmu and tcas was working. lol I too got the alert today but no voice i did get the yellow warning light and the yellow box for the traffic. not sure if we get the voice as i saw that posted somewhere else on the board about not hearing a traffic traffic alert.

Good, glad you got it working. The voice alert should definitely be there, so I'll follow up on that issue with the team.Regards,Nick
