Two very strange problems...

Featured Replies

To start with - I am running FSX on XP pro, all SP updates current on both FSX as well as my OS, and have Active Sky Evolution (just released - no prior install of ASX or ASA so it was a full install vs an update) plus Radar Contact ver 4 (also a full new install). I fly the Level-D 767 a lot, but these problems were with the generic 172 Skyhawk, using the RealityXP GNS430 GPS. So there are a few variables here as far as implicable software, and that's what makes this not only tough to pin down, but makes me wonder where to post this. I did a search but see no similar issues at least based on my search terminology. I'm hoping someone who has had a similar occurance might comment. I was going to make two separate posts for each problem, but on the chance that they might be related, I'll include both in a single post. The first issue: ATIS (the generic FSX ATIS) changes it's identifier with each transmission, although the actual information itself (winds, altimeter, etc) remains unchanged. In this situation, RCv4 was not running. To illustrate an example, an ATIS transmission will start with "Information India", give the weather, runway and local NOTAM information, then close with "Advise on contact you have information Romeo", then start again with Information "Mike", etc. - every subsequent identifier is different transmission after transmission. Very strange. The other issue that may or may not be related is that the last time I used RCv4, all altitude instructions were left blank (eg., "Skyhawk 623, climb and maintain [quiet pause]. Contact ground when ready." While monitoring the frequency, I noticed that all other ATC traffic were given "missing" altitudes. At one point, I just guessed at the altitude (I suspected ATC meant to clear me to 5k), but when I flew above 3k the controller barked at me and said, "Skyhawk 623, you were told to maintain [quiet pause]." Obviously either a mischievious virtual controller or a weird bug.The first problem (rapidly changeable ATIS identifiers) occurred after shutting down RCv4, making me suspicious of a not-so-clean shutdown (remnants of RCv4 still playing with FSX?). But the most recent software install is ASE, so I naturally suspect that may be the culprit. What I haven't done is reboot the entire system (haven't had the chance since it is currently on a continuous training flight by another RW pilot as I write this) and I hope a full system reboot may resolve the issues. But even if it does, I am very curious about why this is happening and would certainly like to preclude repeat occurances if possible.Any thoughts, suggestions, suspicions, ideas?Lee

Well, for what it's worth, the ATIS identifier issue remains despite a complete system reboot and not having fired up Radar Contact at all. Still hopeful someone has a clue - I don't.Lee

Seems ASE is the culprit. I reposted this in the HiFiSim forum.
