Asus G73JH with core i7 720QM and FSX Question

Featured Replies

HiI am still trying to find a laptop that will run FSX at high frame rates and good detail. The new Asus G73JH seems promising as it has an ATI 1GB 5870 graphics card, 8GB DDR3 RAM and a core i7 720QM processor. Has anyone any experience with this computer and FSX? The processor seems to be the weakest link but I've been told I can't upgrade it here by the distributor. Many thanksGerry

Gerry,I just bought a Sager 8760 17" laptop. I bought it with the Nvidia GTX285 instead of the available ATI 5870. This laptop has the choice of the two GPU cards. I choose the GTX285 cause the drivers work really well with FSX and FS9, and are not the same hit and miss as with the ATI cards. I can always later on switch to the ATI just have to come up with a half grand to do it. Since Sager's are fully configurable I opted for the i7 920XM, which is the high end CPU. 4Gigs of ram is all that you would need for FSX or FS9 (which is what I bought the lappy for).you may want to check out www.notebookreview.com and see what people are saying about both laptops. Asus and Sager both have dedicated forums with rabid fans in each.I won't be receiving my lappy till late next week, so i can't give you any numbers yet, but both the Asus and Sager should be pretty good at running either Sim pretty nicely. (not as good as a desktop but still pretty good none the less)Edit: I can say from the time I spent over at notebookreview, the Asus seems to have way more issues than Sager.Let me know if you have more questions.Scott

Hi ScottThanks for the reply.I live in Ireland so don't have the same options as you guys have and in fact the Asus dealer only opened this week. I was thinking of Alienware but for a similar spec it is much more expensive. I have read a lot of reviews of the Asus and it seems pretty good but no-one has a review with FSX.I'll let everyone know when I get it!Gerry

Gerry,You could try this place, they are in England, They are active in notebookreview forums and seem to have a good reputation.http://www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk/Just a thought
