Installing FSX on my system

Featured Replies

I've just purchased MS Flight Sim X and I'd like some guidance with installing the software on my system.I have a DELL Precision T3500 with the following components. I've also attached a CPU-Z summary report that shows the components in more detail.-Intel Xeon x5550 @ 2.67GHz (4 cores, 8 threads)-6GB DDR3 RAM (3 x 2GB @ 667MHz)-300GB SCSI (15K rpm)-NVIDIA Quadro FX 580-24" LCD monitor (1920 x1200)-Windows 7 64bit-DirectX 11.0Currently, my SCSI drive is partitioned as follows:C: (100GB, 50% full) D: (200GB)I have already found NickN's Win7 install guide on this forum:http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_post...D=198187#198187My questions are...1. Is this the definitive guide for FSX installation, or can you point me to other info I should know about?2. Due to the large number of modifications to the system required, I'm considering setting up a dual-boot environment and running FSX in a separate partition. Is this recommended?3. Can I create another partition on my existing hard drive, or do I need to get a 2nd hard drive for the FSX partition?4. What screen resolution should I be using?Any other recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all.

1) Nicks guide is not the holy grail, but it is really close. Setting up Nhancer the way Nick has it will yield excellent results.2) Dont do a dual boot, Windows 7 will switch automatically to 32bit application. Just stay with windows 7.3) You can use Partition majic to partition your hard drive but, Highly reccommended to put FSX on seperate HD.4) Run your screens native resolution. (1920x1200)These settings are a compilation of tweaks that work well for me.Frame limiter works for some people but not all. I get a Display driver crash when I use it.I7's like the Bufferpool=0 and Intel 975's are 50/50[GRAPHICS]SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=1 HIGHMEMFIX=1STALE_BUFFER_THRESHOLD=2147483647 [Display]TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400TextureMaxLoad=9[bufferPools]UsePools=1Poolsize=240000000[JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=14[MAIN]FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.30[TERRAIN]LOD_RADIUS=6.500000TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=800TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=600Prerender limit=5 in Nhancer 2.5.7 profile and global.
