Upgrade to 980X , Worth ?

Featured Replies

Hi everybody. I plan to upgrade my rig , change CPU to 980x . Now I have system same as my signature.Budgets not a problem , But I need to know what is actual benefit from 980x.Higher framerate , smoother gameplay , push all slider setting to right these all I wish.Thank you.

My rig, see sig, runs FSX @ 1080P on 3 monitors, Full settings for everything (inc. Traffic), PMDG 747 above ManhattanX, 35FPS, no microstutters or lag whatsoever. Never seen frames drop below 35, anywhere. I tried FSX on my work rig. Everything full with traffic @ 75%. above manhattanX PMDG 744, around 20FPS, with only slight stutters and average lag.

Hi Chris Thank you for your respond . That is amazing performance with killer addon , something in my head is YOUR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE may from fermi SLI too . And Do you tweak CFG file or not ?I'm low altitude flyer , I like VFR flight , many autogen . I have FTX PNW and All ORBX AU .Is it possible if I only have 980X ? Fermi is next step , I wait for 485 if it is single GPU.Thank you.Anthony

Chris, what are you doing in real life?? :( Who can afford such a monster machine? It's nothing short of best of the best. And max out what you can...

I'm in the oil and gas industry. The reason my work rig is so powerful is because I use a lot of 3D design and CPU intensive programs for my job. Yes a 775 quad would suffice, but this was more futureproof. The GTX 280 is a very good card and the only reason I run tri SLI 480's is because Im a sucker for new hardware. Something new gets released, and if I like it, I gotta have it. It was originally only going to be dual, but got 50% off 480 when I bought the eVGA classified. No I don't tweak the CFG, because to be honest, I don't need to. With the GTX 280, I doubt that will bottleneck your system. I'd say your monitor will bottleneck it way before the card. I recommend switching to liquid cooling if your going to OC. I use the corsair H50 and idle temps are around 45, and 100% loads around 75-80. This may seem hot, but it is running at 4.4GHz. It took me a while to get it this high, but I'm planning to turn it down to 3.8 or 4 as I prefer it to be cooler. PSU and case are both fine, but if you do upgrade to 480, check it will fit first. Is your memory 1600MHz? What's it's latency? This could bottleneck your system.

Hi Chris That's true , My G.skill 9-9-9-24 , now run 6-7-6-24 for smoother . I know liquid cooling can increase OC speed but more complex maintenance , I choose air cooling . H50 is good choice but not available in my country. If you said "not tweak CFG "and get FPS above 30 with your addon , 980x is perseus who kill medusa I will look for 980x in nearby store.Thank again for your detailAnthony

Haha, have fun with the 980x, she's real good fun!

Hi Chris I bought it . I can not identify to " he " or " she " , Chris.Kidding :( Anthony
