Increase LOD for terrain mesh - not autogen

Hi all. I sometimes fly with LOD at 7.5 instead of default high 4.5. I really like the look of the terrain and mountains as there is much more definition in the mesh. However the extra added autogen is, as we know, not good for fps, so I was wondering if you think it would be possible to increase the LOD for mesh without adding extra autogen in the distance?
