Missing Sounds in FS2004

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,I have some sound problems with FS2004. It seems that not all sounds are played. For example I'm missing touchdown-sounds on all aircraft, as well as some sounds from the engines. When I check all sounds available in the sound folder of an aircraft (i.e. Wilco A320 with TSS Soundpack), I can listen to much more sounds than I actually hear when I fly the aircraft, no matter what sound pack I use. Especially the touchdown sounds are completely missing in the sim, although the files are there. Also, when I listen to the "preview"-wavs of other sound-packs, it sounds much better with a lot more "details" etc. ... The FS sound is a little "flat"... I have the feeling, that the FS can't play all sounds (maybe a setup issue?) OR that my sound-card is somehow limiting the amount of sounds played. Is that possible? (I'm using a realtek high definition audio onboard "soundcard". Driver updates didn't help.... )I would be thankful for any ideas or hints.GreetingsStu

Hello,Indeed the sounds can be in some differents folders (the aircraft sound folder and also the main sound folder of FS2004 and some particular addon's can also store their sounds in a proprietary folder)Anyways .. the thing to check is the sound.cfg ...There are the strings who are calling the sounds for all the event's implemented for the aircraft and sometime for the panel.Note also that the effects can also trigger some sounds (just open effect file with Notepad for check those)Hope it's help.Regards.bye.gifGus.

Hello Gus,thanks for the reply, I checked as much as I understood within the cfg's, weverything seems fine to me. for example, the touchdown-sound section in the sound.cfg shows the following entries:[left_TOUCHDOWN]filename=320touchmainminimum_volume=15000maximum_volume=18000[center_TOUCHDOWN]filename=320touchnoseminimum_volume=18000[right_TOUCHDOWN]filename=320touchmainminimum_volume=15000maximum_volume=18000(I raised the volume settings for testing purposes)still, i don't get any touchdown sounds in the FS, although the connected files are in the sound folder and clearly representing a nice touchdown "bump". i also testet various other sounds, changing the linked filename, and de-installing active camera (known for triggering sound issues) and AES didn't work either...as for the effects etc., I honestly don't know what to look for there... i keep playing around with the settings and different sound packs, maybe i'll find a way to fix it.thx & greetsstu

Hello,Also as reminder:Check your sounds settings in FS2004 !It's possible to adjust different categories (sliders)Regards.bye.gifGus.

Hi again, first of all, thanks for the tips, I played around with a lot of settings (again) but still I didn't solve the problem completely. Still, I'm missing sound that are in the sound folder (i.e. flap sounds and certain spool-up sounds) but I'm starting to think that it's related to my crappy onboard-sound combined with very old speakers :) ... I think I'll need to get some fresh hardware :) As fot the touchdown-sound, I figured out the "problem"!!! It seems, that my landings are just too soft ... :) According to the FSPassengers after-flight-dialogue, I usually touch down at a v/s of 80-180 ft/m, which seems to be to soft for the sounds to go off. I did some very hard test landings with somewhat between 400 and 800 ft/m, and voila: a nice, lound touchdown sound! So, does someone knows a way to edit some settings to let the sounds be "triggered" at much lower touchdown v/s?Thanks & greetsStu
