September 7, 201015 yr CAV MANAGEMENT ANNOUNCE NEW ACQUISITIONTORONTO, ON -- A few days ago, it was revealed through an anonymous source that four MD-10-30 freighter conversion aircraft were seen leaving an aircraft storage facility in the Arizona desert. The aircraft were reportedly plain white, stripped of their paint, but sported registration marks from Canada. This sighting sparked a rumor that Canadian Airlines Virtual was downsizing it's fleet of the three-engined airliners, and that the airline may not proceed with plans to open an Air Cargo division. That all changed Monday when CAV executives issued a statement, saying that the four old McDonnell Douglas aircraft were indeed former Canadian aircraft, and that the four oldest MD-10-30's had been sold. The four aircraft ranged in age from being manufactured in 1975 to 1978, and they could no longer be operated economically over a long-term period. The statement went on to say however, that they had been replaced with four newer, 1992-model McDonnel Douglas MD-11 freighters. One of the aircraft was seen in and around Toronto's Lester B. Pearson International Airport, flying circuits, dressed in a "Canadian Air Cargo" livery. CAV's media relations department declined an in-person interview, but confirmed via phone that the four MD-11F's were being repainted and flight tested. It was also confirmed that the Canadian Air Cargo division will begin operations soon, utilizing a fleet of the six remaining DC-10-30 aircraft, which have since been converted to MD-10 freighters, along with the four newer MD-11F's, and CAV's remaining ten Boeing 737-200's, all of which have also been converted to freighters. The B737-200's and MD-10's are reportedly in storage, and will be brought back into active service in time for the activation of the Cargo division.Financial terms of the sale and purchase agreements were not disclosed, however, it was revealed that the MD-11's were picked up for a "very low and minimal" cost, after the sale of the older MD-10's.Visit Canadian Airlines Virtual at - http://www.flycav.com
