PC for good frame rates

Featured Replies

I have a P3 667MHz, 374MB pc133, geforce 4 4200 128MB graphics.Frame rates with FS2004 are generally OK until I turn up virtual traffic and detail ground candy. Taking off from a major airport with everything at max gives about 3-4 fps.I only need a fast PC for Flight Simming so what is the minimum I could get away with to give me 15fps + in the same situation?e.g. I could get a new mobo and AMD1.5 XP for under

Hi Don,My first reply didn't get through - so if you get 2...You're right. The mobo is the weakest link.Suggest you go one stage further, though and get one which takes DDR RAM, and go for 512 Mb. I know it wastes your 133 RAM, but the extra will give you a lot of extra bang for the buck, and help future proof your set up ( for a couple of years anyway :) ).6 months ago, I had roughly this set up (1.4 AMD, 512 DDR and a Radeon 7200), and was very happy with it (on FS2k2). I got 15 fps easily, and 8-10 with the sliders maxed.FYI, I now have a 2.4 AMD and a 9500 Radeon, and am getting regularly 20 fps with the sliders mostly to the right. Very sweet, but that will cost you another

If buying a new PC is out of the question, the upgrade you mention is worth the money. I still have an Athlon 850Mhz, 512MB and Geforce2. I get average framerates of 12-15 (locked at 15). I have to limit the (default) traffic to 25% and the sim is quite flyable. Off course I'm planning to buy a new PC, but for the time being it'll do.

Controllers: Fulcrum One Yoke | MFG Crosswind v2 pedals | Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant |Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant | Stream Deck XL & Plus | TrackIR 5 Tobii eye tracking

Thanks for your reply. It's very useful. At least I know I don't have to go for the latest gear to get decent frame rates.

Hi Richard.I replied this morning but it doesn't seem to have got through. Thanks again.Don.
