New PC for FS9 with High Screen resolution!

Featured Replies

Hi All,Just returned to FS9 after a while and realsiing how slow my old PC for FS9 is, I would like to buy a top end PC in the UK for FS9 only which allows me to fly in a High Screen resolution. Just wondering if anybody can kindly help as I am at a complete loss with new PC's.Ideally i would like to stick with Nvidia and Intel Thank you every much Best Wishes, Chris

Easy: i7-950 + GTX460 (or GTX480 if you want to run ridiculously high IQ with high resolution). Under high res I understand 1920 and higher... 6GB of DDR3 RAM as usual. Mainboard, something in line of mine or similar.Important thing: good cooling and overclock.

Many thanks Word Not Allowed thanks Chris Best Wishes,Chris

That will run FS9 on absolute max settings with maxed out performance.
Yah. 40-60fps in heaviest situations with really heavy addons.
Will also run FSX on max settings at excellent performance.
Nah. Drops down to 15fps in heavy situations (high IQ, heavy clouds etc).

Hi Word Not Allowed,Many thanks again for your kind reply.I am going to stick with Windows XP, as there seems to be potential compatability issues with FS9.Also I am right in thinking quad core CPU's do nothing for FS9 in terms of quality and performance? Also what is the highest GHZ for the Intel processor? Please excuse my ignorance on the technical engineering side of PC's as I havent got a clue.Again thank you very muchBest Regards,Chris

You mean compatibility issues with W7? Not that I've seen any, but hey... that's me. XP is fine for FS9. Only benefit using W7 for FS9, if 64bit, is that you can set fs9.exe to use 4GB of virtual space avoiding OOMs easily. XPx64 sucks.Quads: correct. FS9 only uses one core. If you want solely FS9, Core2Duos rock, I used to have E8600.GHZ: I believe they reached something around 7Ghz... dream on :-) We mortals: 4GHz, and around. If you got dough, i7-980x can reach with good cooling around 4.5 stable.
