September 11, 200322 yr Was doing a shot hop from Molokai to Honolulu, IFR. ATC started to clear me for a ILS approach for 4R, but I decided I wanted to do a visual for 4L, I requested and recieved clearance for a visual on 4L with a side step to 4R. Wondered allowed what were they doing. Doing the approach, and listening to ATC, I noticed that it appeared that they had VFR traffic landing on 4L and IFR on 4R. But the cool thing was that when they gave me the turn to line up and call the RWY, I was also given traffic at my 6, a B763. What happened was myself and the B763 both made right turns for runway line-up at the same time, me for 4L and him on 4R. Me being in a Dash7 he quickly over took me and landed on 4R and I made my side step and followed him in. All in the mean time a Cessna was being vectored in for a visual on 4L(he was flying VFR), and he landed shortly after I did. Now the big question....Was this one big luck of the draw thing, or did MSs ATC actually have me do the side step approach to make way for the B763?????In either case It was pretty neat how ATC seemed to totally have control. I guess you could say This is an area where MS has made big progress.I think I will try to do this flight again tomorrow and see what happens..... Knowing MS it will have all three aircraft trying to land on the same helo pad...LOL :-outta http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/User_files/3e72a43942b48d2b.jpg There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".- unknown "My daddy gives me up, to fight for you"- a US Military Members Child
September 11, 200322 yr In a sense, it was the luck of the draw. It depends on the winds and the type of aircraft you're flying.I had the same experience in Tucson, AZ. I was flying the 737 and, at first, they vectored me in for a visual approach to 29R. However, I noticed there was a cloud near the surface that was obstructing my view of the runway, so I asked for another approach. ATC vectored me for the sidestep approach. It was pretty cool.
