September 11, 200322 yr I am writing a flight and plan for FS2K4 that is supposed to depart with low visibility and heavy rain and arrive at its destination, one hour fifteen minutes later again in low visibility and heavy rain. I am using FS2K4 weather so I am not downloading real world weather. At the start of the flight the effect I trying to produce is there, I can hardly see the end of the runway and it is bucketing down. When I descend to approach level from cruise however there is reduced visibility but no rain and that is how it stays. If I then access Weather, having touched down, to see what has happened and go into the advanced settings, everything is as it was at the start (Cloud Stratus 11500-2500, Rain base altitude -1500, Rate Very heavy, Barometer 29.82, Visibility 3 miles, Rate of change none). On clicking OK to leave Weather my visibility reduces from the 10 miles at which I touched down and it is bucketing down again.I have saved this flight before descending (from FL330 to 3,000) and going into the advanced settings but changing nothing other than to click OK on the way out, I then find I have the rain and low visibility I want during the approach and finals. Can it be that it is necessary to confirm one
September 12, 200322 yr Maybe you could set the weather at your originating position and also set it for your destination. Just setting the global weather allows the change to occur where it may change so it is not raining by the time you get to your destination.I did this with a snow storm. I set my take-off to be clear and knew that I would be flying into a snow storm up north and gee, I never want to do that again!! Thank the good Lord for GPS!
September 13, 200322 yr I am not sure what you mean by setting the weather at both my originating and final destinations. As I approach the finals stage in the flight, I am looking at 10 miles visibility with no rain. When I go into advance weather settings they are exactly as I have set them for the start of the flight, 3 miles visibility and heavy rain (I have used the no rate of change option). Coming out from having checked the advanced weather settings and clicking OK, but not having changed anything, I find the 3 miles visibility and heavy rain I had planned to be used in the flight. I have tried saving this situation now the low visibility and rain have decided to put in a belated appearance and I renamed the weather file. I then attached it to my originating flight, no joy, no low visibility or rain however, when I reach the finals stage having flown the flight with the newly installed weather. The flight and plan concerned has been flown by four others all of whom report the same. The only way to get the low visibility and rain during the finals is to confirm the weather settings during flight, hardly a satisfactory procedure. Unless I can find a solution to this problem you will have a chance to judge for yourself this coming Wednesday, as I will be posting the flight and plan to Avsim under the name RTW-K4-02, my apologies in advance to those pilots who fly it and find the finals stage merely interesting, rather than hair-raising as I had intended.Denis.
