September 12, 200322 yr I was messing around with AI Traffic in FS9 last night using the ATR 42 from Project AI and on a short runway the aircraft landed half way down a short runway, which has sea at both ends and then needless to say couldn't stop before the end of the runway and fell into the sea, hence end of that aircraft for AI traffic. I know ATR42s can operate in and out of the airport - is this a problem with FS9 or is it dependant on particular AI aircraft? Also I've seen it at Heathrow with other Project AI aircraft too - they come in way to high and land very far down the runway (757s etc) the heavies.Has anybody come across the same situation? Thanks and RegardsDamien
September 12, 200322 yr Author I've noticed this yes - it's usually a problem with the particular airfile for the plane in question. If you're using Project AI aircraft - then you might spend time updating to the latest Flight Model versions. Currently it's Version 5, though they are starting the process of upgrading to a FS9 compatible Version 6 (the Airbus' are mostly done).I have very few anomalies with version 5 - none with version 6 - it might be worth your while to upgrade.Best of luck! September 12, 200322 yr How about not clearing the runway after landing. I was waiting for clearance out of Las Vegas (KLAS) the other night on runway 25R. I had to wait for an incoming Southwest 737 (also Project AI) which landed but spent forever at the far end of the runway before clearing. ATC asked 3 times to clear the runway when able. Did finally clear but what was going on?
September 13, 200322 yr Author That's all dependent on the runway.Under ideal circumstances, AI aircraft will land very close to the numbers and after slowing is close to a turnoff. If it doesn't land near the end and ends up landing halfway down the runway then it has to taxi to the next available turnoff and that might be far down the runway - which is why it takes an eternity for it to clear the runway. Some airports have bad turnoff layouts that make this problem quite extreme - I haven't noticed it much in FS9 as they've upped the taxi/turnoff speeds - that and multiple runway useage out of the box.If you're using FS9 then I'd request the opposite runway than AI is using the most (if applicable) - if your using FS8 (FS2002) then I'd suggest getting a program called AI Speed (http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?DLID=16680) from here in the Avsim library. It will allow you to manualy change the speeds for your AI Aircraft during multiple phases. I don't know if it's compatible with FS9 or not.Best of luck! Howard H.
