FS2002 ILS

Featured Replies

HeyIn FS 2002, when I get vectors to the ILS by ATC, the Final Approach is very short ( about 5 to 6 miles ). As this is unusualin Germany, does anyone know if it's possible to change this pointof Localizer - Interception to about 8 miles? Thanks

I've just started flying IFR plans in FS2002 and am quite annoyed with the fact that there is no ability to have ATC follow standard approach routes (STARS). It seems like the approach vectors are an arbitrary pattern that always has one intercepting the localizer at about 5 miles out, and (for a novice like me) usually too high to make a proper glideslope approach.I've tried twice now flying from San Jose (KSJC), my local airport, to Los Angeles (KLAX). Normal commercial pattern is to come in over Santa Barbara and Santa Monica, flying a true downwind leg parallel to the airport, with a 180 deg turn over the collesium to intercept 24R for landing. The FS8 ATC turns me left before Santa Barbara, and has me do a dangerous descent over the mountains north of Burbank, potentially crossing Burbank's departure traffic, dropping into the LA Basin across North Hollywood, before turning me onto 25R for landing.Maybe I should turn ATC off as I get nearer to the end of the flight and just rely on my GPS waypoints, but isn't this supposed to be "As Real As It Gets"?:-newburn

Just figure out a better vector for yourself. I usually allow 15-20 degrees variation from the vector given by ATC and set myself up for a slightly longer final. Flightsim will not cancel your flightplan nor will ATC give you into trouble for this.Try it,markyboy.
