September 16, 200322 yr Still having problems with my new ATI 9800. The frame rates are fine, averaging close to 20 even in high traffic/density areas but the card seems to "bog down" when I switch from 2D cockpit to spot view. The terrain and sometimes the aircraft texture dosn't fill right away, and sometimes dosn't at all. Framerates seem to stay the same...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/37379.jpgI've tried renaming the fs9 config file so a new one is generated, lowering all sliders, etc etc. I'm getting frustrated, argh. Any help would be appreciated. Thx!rgds, billgEDIT: What GeForce card should I be looking at if I can't get the ATI working? The FX5900? Thx...
September 16, 200322 yr Zack, I have a 2.5ghz, P4PE ASUS mb, 1gb ram, and 80gb or so ata harddisk. rgds,billg
September 16, 200322 yr Hi BillG,#1 - Please have a look at this thread and see if my suggestion there is your problem and cure. Your screenshot here looks 'kind of' similar to the screenshot there.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...topic_id=143991#2 - Since you have 1 GB of ram, what is your APG Aperture size setting in your BIOS? I recommend going ahead and putting it at 256. It helped me to have smoother experience. But really I'm thinking your problem may lie in the above suggestion.Hope that helps,Jim
September 16, 200322 yr Thx Jim, I'll have a look at that post. I've attached my fs9.cfg file....rgds,billgEDIT: Jim, had a look and it was set to programs, not system cache :-(
September 16, 200322 yr Sorry to hear that wasn't the problem. :(Well, first, by looking at your FS9.cfg, I recommend you get rid of the two following lines...textureAGP=0PanelAsTexture=0With you system you have I don't think you need them. With the amount of RAM you have the PanelAsTexture=0 will surely slow you down, not help. You certainly do not need that one.Second, try turning this line TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=600 down from 600 to 120 and see what happens. The max you should have there is 400 anyway, I believe. Maybe it's whats causing the problem. I have mine at 120 and it works good. Also, try putting your TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=22 to TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=19Good luck,Jim
September 17, 200322 yr Jim, thx for taking the time to check the fs9.cfg. I gave it a go and it's better. I tried the vertex_level at 19 and it didn't make much difference, which is good because I need it higher for some of the fsgenesis scenery I have. I replaced a geforce 3 ti200 with the ati. Could there be remnants of the nvidia drivers somewhere? And I saw a post somewhere but I can't find it about fs9 not recognizing the 9800 pro and you were supposed to do something to the display.cfg. But the graphics are still getting "bogged down" at points and with this system they really shouldn't. I've got something messed up somewhere, argh. thx again...rgds,billg
September 17, 200322 yr Goto driverheaven.com and follow their driver install instruction (on the xp radeon forums). Basically, you should try downloading a driver cleanup program (also available there), and completely wipe out Nvidia drivers, install MS vga standard drivers, then install drivers for the radeon (I recommend Omegas drivers (hosted at the DH site as well).Good luck
September 17, 200322 yr Hassata, gave it a go. Removed all traces of ati and nvidia drivers. Did a clean install and renamed fs9.cfg so a new one would be generated with all defaults. It's still happening, argh. When I switch to spot view it's clear for a fraction of a second, then the display switches to blurry (see attachment). Don't know whether to exchange the card, maybe it's bad, or get a geforce card.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/37506.jpgrgds,billg
September 18, 200322 yr Bumping. I am at a loss as to what could be causing this. Anyone else have any ideas.P.S. Try posting the problem and a screenshot in the driverheaven Radeon/xp forum.
September 18, 200322 yr hmmm, interesting update. So I reinstalled FS9 (argh). Everything was fine. Then 1 by 1 started reinstalling addon aircraft first. Everything was ok--FFX DC10, FFX 737-200, Opensky 747 (yeah, I admit I'm a big iron guy)--until I got to Captain Sim 727. The CS727 is fine until I use the side view or switch to VC, then I get the fuzzies from then on no matter what view I'm in. What's different about the side view or VC view? I'm assuming that the side view is similar to the VC view in that it looks the same as looking out the side when you're in VC mode. So it's switching to VC "mode" that is corrupting the textures. I'm more lost than I was, hehe.rgds, billg
