Nvidia 'beta' drivers 51.75; Hello FS98!

Featured Replies

..Unless somebody else have had any better experiences, dont even bother spend time installing them and having to uninstall them. For my part, it made FS9 look more like FS98 with nice looking clouds ;).Given, its a VERY early leaked (long awaited) beta so what can be expected.Bumpmapping seems to have gone totally waterwise and the horizon especially is extremely blurred bordering yuckyness lolPicture: The black blurred mess in the top part USED to be nice bumbmapped lightblue waterhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/37423.jpg

This doesn't prove anything, Max. These are rel. 51 drivers. Nvidia hasn't even released the rel. 50 drivers yet! These drivers are not ready for prime time at all, and the only reason they are available anywhere is because someone leaked them.Surely everyone knows that leaked drivers this early in development are not mean to be used for real applications. It appears that the original poster knows this.Jim

They are not "early in development", the 50 series drivers will be released next week at Computex. You're flip-flopping again on "pre-release" software. In one instance (HL2) you say it's not been released so benchmarks aren't valid; in the 2nd instance (Doom III) you say its results are just as valid as HL2's; and in the 3rd instance you say pre-release drivers from Nvidia aren't valid. Which is it? In your other posts in the linked thread you seem to imply that it's a black & white situation where it's either all or nothing. It's funny that you, a staunch Nvidia supporter, is claiming these drivers are not yet ready and their results are invalid while Nvidia themselves wanted Valve to test HL2 with these drivers so as to increase performance!!! You're saying benchmarks with these drivers are invalid while Nvidia is saying benchmarks with the *old* drivers are invalid! ok, I'm off to class now, BBL-Max Cowgill

Read my latest post in the previous thread. You'll see that I am not at all saying what you claim that I am saying. I never did say that ANY of these benchmarks should be used as a buying decision. I have consistently said that ALL of them are based on pre-release games running pre-release drivers. None of them mean squat to me.Yes, Nvidia wanted Valve to use the rel 50 drivers. That's because performance IS better with them. If you look back at previous driver releases, you'll find that image quality has always been an issue before the drivers are released. Leaked drivers are just that; leaked. There's no telling what state they were in and what features are enabled/disabled by the manufacturer. The manufacturer did not intend for them to be used. There is no indication that the version leaked here is the same build as the drivers Nvidia provided to Valve. In the end, what I've said all along is the ultimate truth. Until these games and these drivers are released and can be tested in a pure environment, no one will know how they perform.Jim

Just to add a little update conserning my little 'adventure' with these #"

Well said. Sadly some people think that what they get at 3DGuru and sites like it ARE official releases instead of hacks, cracks, and stolen/leaked betas and alphas.I NEVER use drivers that were not released officially by the manufacturer from their own channels (apart from the one old ATI card I used to have where only beta drivers for another card used to work at all, typically ATI...) and have no trouble at all.

I posted a thread about this three days ago and warned people.
