September 24, 200322 yr Thanx Russel, a product I for sure will check out. What is the minimum requirements for the server? (CPU/RAM and bandwidth)?CheersMark
September 24, 200322 yr Actually I'm not really sure what the minimums would be for CPU and RAM, but I know a couple of people have hosted sessions on really slow computers and they said it was fine. This new version does a lot more work than the old one did, because it's now forwarding all of the player data between the 2002 and 2004 sessions. But if you have a large session, you can always adjust the rate that it forwards the data, so it's not working so hard. The bandwidth is pretty easy to calculate if you're running a 2002-only session -- it's usually about 1 to 1.5 KBytes per player. But with 2004, it's impossible to predict, because of a "bug" in FS2004 that makes it send data to all the other players at the same rate as your framerate in the game. So if your video is getting 50 frames per second, you'll also be sending data to all other players 50 times per second (as opposed to 4 times per second in FS2002). The only way to limit this is by locking your framerate to a particular number, such as 20 or 30 frames per second. Even then you'll be sending a lot of data, but it'll help for people on slow connections.I know that with the old versions of FSHost (before 2004 support was added), there were lots of people hosting sessions on slow computers and dial-up modems. I guess we'll have to see how it goes with FS2004 added to the equation.Russellhttp://www.chocolatesoftware.com
