September 29, 200322 yr Check in the realism settings and make sure auto mixture is not checked..mine was that way by default..JamesJ
September 29, 200322 yr Well, having flown the old Frontier Routes in the MS Historical flights section, I can tell you that you won't clear Monarch Pass unless you are leaning the engines. Do double check the realism settings - the mixture has a very big effect the higer you get.
September 30, 200322 yr Very true. I just flew that flight yesterday and had the mix 50 % out then when I went to a higher alt to cross the Monarch pass i leaned it more and noticed a better sound out of the engine. BTW I just did a test to try and firure out fuel burn and at 500MSL full rich I got 135 gals per hour and leaned I got 114 gals per hour so yes the mixture may not change the temp but does effect the a/c in at least fuel consumption and power at alt.NP
September 30, 200322 yr Hi & thanks all!I think it's just the CHT that's not modelled, I guess. I was watching it closely during a flight.Ron, thanks for your comment too. I recognise your name - you're a developer aren't you? I hope you do fix the MSFS mixture effects. Monitoring & worrying about the CHT is part of the fun, for me.It would be great if someone could bring out a realism patch for the DV3 (and others), that consisted of lots of small tweaks and fixed things like mixture effects. Out of the box those aircraft aren't bad for MS default aircraft, but there's always room for improvements from various experts. And I know that there's enough interest for it.Jason
September 30, 200322 yr Hi Jason,How about getting some of Trev Morson's files for the DC-3? Check out http://www.douglasdc3.com/Get his newer flight dynamics for the DC-3 from there, it was just updated yesterday to v4.0, the filename is best-dc3.zipRight here in the Avsim file library you can get his awesome sounds. The filename is dc3sond.zipHe also has a IFR 2D panel for it with the filename dc-3-pan.zip here on Avsim. That 2D panel can be coupled with an IFR VC panel by Brian Macmillan with the filename dc3ifrpn.zip from the www.flightsim.com file library. I recommend doing the following that I posted on another forum...To make it work like I have it you'll want to do the following..."There is a new recent VC by Brian Macmillan out there that goes well with my 2D panel, just cut & paste his VC01 and VC02 from his Panel.cfg into my Panel.cfg and you are 100% complete."From looking at what I was copying and pasting in it looked like I needed to add Brian Macmillan's C47.cab gauge to my Gauges folder. So I did, just to be sure. In case your not familiar with doing this, what he's saying is take the entire VC01 and VC02 'sections' from Brian Macmillan's panel.cfg and overwriting those same sections that are in his(Trev Morson's) panel.cfg.There is also a very cool FX file for the DC-3 with the filename dc3_fx.zip by Adnane BOURJA. I think it's here on Avsim. Just don't use his "counter rotating props", he made a mistake, the props do not counter rotate.Cheers!Jim
September 30, 200322 yr Aha, Trev Morson, another name from MSFS developer history. I'm glad to hear he's still doing stuff. I bought his DC3 add-on for FS98 a few years ago - it was great at the time.I'll check out the things you recommended.many thanksJason
September 30, 200322 yr Hi AgainI've been looking at Trev's work, and Brian's. Thanks for the tips. All great stuff!!
September 30, 200322 yr Cool! Glad you found them to your liking. :) But I guess I can say it looks from the other thread you have started that you'd rather find a different VC. I'm not sure there's another one out there but good luck anyway.Cheers,Jim
September 30, 200322 yr The IFR panel is great, and so is the VC cockpit to go with it, but since the DC-3 is a historical aircraft, I also wanted to have good quality VC that goes with the default cockpit. Ie, that has only early instrumentation.Someone posted a reply in my other VC thread, which prompted me to have another look around in the display settings, and there I found a new slider that I hadn't maxed out, under the hardware. Global Texture Quality was only set to medium! So I moved to maximum, and now the VC is just great!I've only had MSFS for about 3 or 4 days, so I'm still finding out little things here & there! What a great program it is!RegardsJason
September 30, 200322 yr Hi Jason,I agree with you that the panel is great but not historically correct. I like it and use it though, and I certainly understand where you're coming from.Take Care,Jim
