Low frame rate insight

Featured Replies

I did some experimenting with frame rates and memory useage monitoring.First I loaded up fs2004 and went to WestChester airport in New York. I was getting 20-23 fps consistently. My memory useage was 396 MB (100% MyTraffic traffic, Very Dense AutoGen, FSGenesis 38m mesh, real-world weather). Then I shut down and restarted fs2004. This time I started out at JFK in New York. Now I was using 442 MB of memory. But as I flew back over to WestChester, my memory kep increasing, and my fps stayed low. I just kept Task Manager running, and could see the memory increase as I kept flying. Finally flying a few hundred feet over WestChester, my fps was around 9, and my memory useage was up to 559 MB! I wonder if it would have peaked at some point? My conclusion is that fs2004 does a poor job of deallocating memory. Why should flying to WestChester as oppossed to starting at WestChester increase my memory useage by 163 MB! It is too bad this can not be addressed but I don't expect a patch coming from Microsoft. I can't imagine running this on a system with 512 MB of memory with other add-ons. That would really tax fs2004. After this experimenting, I did rename the default.xml file and restarted fs2004. This did give me about 3 more fps. I assume that my memory useage was lower as well since less objects were being created, but I did not check. PapaTango

YesFS9 has become a real frame rate headache.....Interesting as to what you did, I just wish that M/soft would do something to address this Issue! just so 80%??? of us could use this sim ! like we can with 2002!I am a bit like you I am not holding my breath for a patch realease so until then rock on 2002Cheers

Just an FYI. renaming the 'default.xml' file won't really increase your framerate much. But what it will do is help keep your framerate fom going totally into the can, most especially when you pass over a large city and then turn back around to make a landing at that city's airport.Regards,Jim
