Two Hard Drives or One Hard Drive

Featured Replies

Hello, my dear friends,So, after several years my computer "broke" and I do not plan on fixing it but I plan on.....you guessed right-- build a new one... ooooh !And, I am thnking about giving FSX a try. I have always been against FSX due to the bad experiecne I had when it came out and due to the alomost 9 out of 10 (I may be dramatizing) bad experiences FSX users say about the performance. But, why not?... things have changed and we now have better hardware/sofware.QUESTION: Do I need 2 hard drives or 1 hard-drive? I am thinking about still using FS9 with Windows XP and FSX with Windows 7, but again, what's the best way to go? One or 2 hard-drives. And, since I'm building the system myself how will I boot into the OS of my choice? Your advice is greatly appreciated Thanks,John

2 drives will always be faster!Cheers,- jahman.

The more the merrier! You can even put your scenery onto another drive if you wish to, meaning: one drive for OS, one drive for FS, one drive for scenery only.

Well, all parts (excluding electricity), have been ordered and are en-route to build an all new FSX System.... $3,560 U.S. spent... I hope I do not regret it ! I have been, perhaps, the number 1 anti-FSX "fan" for the past 5 years. I hope (and I only hope), I don't regret it. If things go well, great! if they don't, not only will I return every part purchased but I will launch a massive campaign against FSX and flight sim, but I will also request that all FSX-related forums be closed completely.O'Key, fine I won't request that all forums be closed...I'll just sit back and cry with all you FSX fans :Tounge: Anyways, happy flying everyone !!!Juan

So what are the specs?!? Love to hear what you decided on.

Hi Tim (and sim friends), Well I decided for these parts: X2 Western Digital VelociRaptor WD4500HLHX 450GB 10000 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s....Thermaltake Spedo Black Full-T Case w/230mm....ASUS Sabertooth X58 Intel X58 LGA1366 Motherboard....Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64Bit...EVGA GeForce GTX 480 SC 1536MB GDDR5 PCIe...Thermaltake TMG HD1 3.5 HD Drive Cooler w/LED....Corsair Hydro H70 CPU Liquid Cooler...Thermaltake TG1 Extreme High Grade Thermal Grease ...GameCom 367 Gaming Headset Closed Ear...Intel I950 OC to 4.20GHz...6GB of Tri-ChannelRAM, Domminator GT 7-7-7-20... Termaltake 1,000W Power Supply...CH newest Yoke...Staike Pedals...And $1,500 worth of the best FSX add-ons to current date.Well, not to brag (I know many people have better systems that mine), but this is what I can afford...My only concern is how do I set-up the 2 hard drives...How do I install the OS, and other software , and how to corectly instal them on the Motherboard. Thanks,John
