Heat vapors?

Featured Replies

Is there a way to make them in the aircraft or somehow make a transparent color, but it must have distortion or you can't see it at all. color 255, 255, 255, 0 is transparent but you can not see it at all, if you use 1 as last then you can see it it's close to transparent but not quite it's more like greyish light, well don't look lake vapors that's for sure.. anyone knows anything about colors in FS2004 or maybe can make a transparent texture somehow that could cause distortion? Like fx_1.bmp but be transparent...Hmmmm.. I don't think I know what I am talking about :-)Andy

You mean something like the heat effect in lomac?Well, you could try to use a reflection map with a very slight, maybe striped alpha channel. At least that's what could be done with the aircraft mdl. I doubt you can do that with the effects files though. Good luck!

Not sure about LOMAC never seen it, this is edited of what I would like to achive still not perfect but sort of...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/41531.jpg

Check out www.lo-mac.com and look at the screenshots. The effect is created with "environmental bump mapping" (I think). Something like the water effect in FS9.The same effect is not possible though for FS, maybe in FS10 it will be. You can only create normal sprites and stuff in FS. Or, as I suggested, the reflection map, but I have no idea how that would look ingame. Probably not very convincing.

Are these pic's from FS2004? If so it looks pretty good, how does it look like on the ground does it distort image behind it as normal heat wave would? As for creating reflection map... hmmm I am not advanced enough to even know what it is :-smile12 I will read up maybe will come up with something. I tried creating something like texture to be only transparent.. well... I didn't see it.. :-lol maybe I play some more on the weekend maybe if I increased the alpha chanel but then again if it's transparent then it won't have areflection :-). Oh well...Andy

It seems to me that if an effects designer could create a localized high mip-map setting (causing severe shimmering) behind the engines, that would help to reproduce this effect.John M.
