October 12, 200322 yr I just don't get it... I take off from KAVX with the So Cal coast in site with maybe a smidgen of haze. And about 5 miles from KAVX I hit a fog bank. It happens a majority of the time.My question is:How in the heck do you even attempt to fly VFR? Or do VFR pilots just use the Clear Skies setting? For IFR it doesn't really make a difference, because as long as you can see the runway at decision height, it doesn't matter. But it looks like VFR flying with using FS 2004 weather would be next to impossible.Barry
October 12, 200322 yr KAVX to mainland CA takes you over several miles of open water. I think your problem may have something to do with that. For obvious reasons, there are no weather reporting stations on water and FS2004 may not be properly interpolating weather conditions between stations under these conditions. I've noticed similar problems while flying overland also, where the transition from one weather condition to another is not as smooth as one would like, so that conditions can go from 20 mile vis, 2/8 cloud cover to 2 mile vis, 5/8 cloud cover in a couple of seconds.
October 12, 200322 yr I just tried and with FS9 real world weather, I got 50 mi. vis. at KAVX, after taking off and heading NE I ran into some 10 mi. vis. and a little farther North it was 20 miles. The weather stations along the coast varied from a low of 5 mi. vis.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/42596.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/42597.jpgKurt M
