October 12, 200322 yr Hey there!Well I decided to upgrade my olf Gf2Ti, it really does do a good job, but I can't get the water reflections in FS9 (which I got two days ago :().Anyways, the only card I can afford right now is a Gf FX 5200 (it's 100 US$ here), and I was wondering if it's a good upgrade from my old card, and if it was worth it. I do know a Gf4 Ti is better in terms of performance (or an ATI Radeon 9600) but they're much more expensive. Thanks a lot!
October 13, 200322 yr If you're looking at the $100 price range, I'd get a GeForce4 4200-128mb. I have a GeForce2Ti right now and I will be ordering one soon.
October 13, 200322 yr Mmm yeah well the thing is, for 100 $ here, the only thing available is the Gf FX...the Gf4Ti might be 180 $ or more (I live in Argentina)What I want to know is if the card does a good job for FS ( I mean I want to know if performance will be same, or slightly better). As for the other games, my comp works great, I have absolutely no problems with them as it is...FS is the reason I'm looking to upgrade :(
October 13, 200322 yr Check out the benchmarks here, that should give you a pretty good idea.....http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030...d_guide-12.htmlTonyDigital-Flight
October 13, 200322 yr Before I bought a new computer, I went from a first generation GF3 to the 5200. I saw a minor increase in performance in FS9, but not much. If I were you, I would consider a different card right now. There are many cards out there with more bang for the buck. (You could make an argument that I don't have much "bang for buck" credibility considering what I purchased. :)) There is a general consensus in the 3D gaming world right now that one of the best buys out there is the Radeon 9600. You can get one for a steal, and the performance will be MUCH better than the 5200.Jim
October 13, 200322 yr I bought an FX 5200 for my ageing PC about a month ago. I too was in the position of only being able to spend $100 (
October 13, 200322 yr Thanks everyone! The only thing I don't want, is the card to perform less than my Gf2Ti. The only reason I'm upgrading are the water reflections mainly, but performance in FS9 is really good, and if I can have the same with a new card I'll be happy. I'll check for prices with the radeon series, people tell me they're really good cards! Thanks again!
