October 23, 200322 yr Hi all,I seem to be becoming a bit of a "realism" junkie, and so I downloaded RealAir's C172 flight model yesterday, as I had seen a great deal of positive comment on it in this forum. And rightly so; it is excellent. Certainly doesn't do weird things during take-off like my default C172 did! Deciding now whether I want their payware offerings too...However, I notice in the read_me file with the C172 flight model that it says set the p-factor (prop effect) slider in FS9 realism settings to HALF-way to have realistic prop effects. Now I naively thought that pushing the slider ALL the way to the right gave me realistic effects... what is going on?! What realism settings do you guys on here use? I fly with all my sliders pushed to the right, thinking that this is most "realistic", however this comment from RealAir - guys who know a lot more about "realism" than I ever will! - has caused me to rethink. Any thoughts, ideas or comments?Cheers,Paul...
October 23, 200322 yr All flight models are a compromise. Not every single facet of real world dynamics is modelled. And it follows that the p-factor might have been increased in the .air file to help with the stall and spin effects and that the slider recommendation - which effectively applies to all aircraft .cfg files globally, helps bring that part of the modelling back under realistic levels in FS.The thing is, as this is a global setting, and it clearly does not follow that the effect is the same for ALL aircraft, why this effect could not be modelled in the actual aircraft .cfg file. Seems unusual to impose the need to adjust this slider for other aircraft that perhaps model p-factor properly with the slider hard right? Perhaps Rob could explain whether this is to do with something that is hard-coded within the sim?Allcott
October 23, 200322 yr That thought crossed my mind concerning some of the other sliders in the sim also. Is "maximum" synonomous with "most realistic"?View Distance certainly isn't.
