October 25, 200322 yr Greetings all,Well, it's time to replace my old trusty AMD 1.33 with something a bit newer. I have priced out some upgrades and would like to get some opinions on my choices. I have a very limited budget so that is why I have chosen these particular parts. I will be using my current Geforce3 video card. Thanks for any help.AMD 2500+ Barton coreASUS A7N8X Motherboard - Nforce2 chipset400W powersupplyKingston HyperX 512MB PC3200 RAM
October 25, 200322 yr Nice choices there, Tommy. I doubt you'll be disappointed with that setup. You may, however, want to spring for a new video card as well if you can afford it. Try looking for a cheap Radeon 9600 Pro (pricewatch.com would be a good place to start if you haven't already). The only thing I would recommend changing is your power supply. You simply don't need a 400W PSU. I run an AXP 2200+ @ 2.0GHz, 512MB RAM, 2 HD's (20GB & 45GB 7200 RPM drives), 16x DVD-rom drive, 52x24x52 cd-rw drive, PCI sound card, AGP GFFX 5200 (not by choice), and a PCI NIC all on a 300W PSU. I overclock my system and have the FSB @ 150MHz so I've upped the voltages on everything (CPU Vcore, ram, agp) so my system consumes even more power. I also run a rather large (and loud) Volcano 7+ HSF on my CPU, as well as a couple case fans thrown into the mix. I don't have any power supply issues with my system, and I highly doubt your system will consume more power than mine so you shouldn't need any more than a 350W PSU. Quality over quantity my friend, quality over quantity. hope this helps,Max Cowgill
