Cincy to Columbus - Nav ?

Featured Replies

Good morning. I used FS9's flight planner to fly VOR-to-VOR from KCVG to KCMH (I think that's Columbus). It had me use the 16 radial from CVG until a right turn 61 miles later to intercept the 94 radial from DQN (Dayton area). That was it; 70 miles to KCMH. So I looked at the map and saw that the ILS to runway 10R looked kind of sweet. I was flying the wonderful Realair C172, set NAV1 to CVG, OBS1 to 16, NAV2 to DQN, and OBS2 to 94. A couple of questions, if I may:- Since the flight planner didn't tell me how far I would be from DQN when I would intercept the ILS localizer (at 99), after I was on my way east from Dayton, I changed NAV1 to DQN 94 radial and autopilor NAV mode. I set NAV2 to runway 10R's ILS frequency and OBS2 to 99. My question is if the NAV2 needle indicator (ADI?), will respond to the ILS localizer like it's a VOR signal, I know this indicator isn't an ILS display like NAV1 but my plan was to use it just like a VOR radial so I knew when I intercept and could make a 5-degree right turn on to the runway heading and then switch the radios so I could see when I caught the glideslope. The NAV2 VOR needle just stayed centered the whole way from Dayton so I wasn't sure if my method would work. So, does the NAV2 display (C172) work for a runway ILS localizer? Thanks so very much,sjKEWR
