An other idea for VATSIM

Featured Replies

Ive flown on Vatsim fo a couple of years now, and the biggest issue with beginners and even some experienced pilots like me get lost at airports. Its not to bad when ATC is not online as you can taxi to a stand of your choice, but when ATC is online a lot of pilots dont have charts and end up getting lost on taxiways and parking up on wrong stands, and in the wrong terminals. Pilots can ask a progressive taxi off the controller, but i still dont think its not that realistic. So i thought about if VATSIM could have Checker follow me vehicles, what VATSIM users can use on live aiports were there is ATC avalible. Basically they can download a model, follow me car off VATSIM, and SquawkBox or FSinn could model the vehicle so Pilots can see the vehicle in the session. The vehicle like i said can be volountery from standared vatsim users, but only two vehicles can be used at a time at a aiport if ATC is online. The User who is operating the follow me vehicle can see other user planes and the vehicle can be on GND TWR or APP frequency so it can communicate with ATC and pilots. A pilot can request it if they ask ATC for a progressive taxi. Then the pilot can follow the vehicle to what ever the stand ATC has ordered. The only issue is scenery, as different sceneries can dodge things up such as unscaled taxiways and ramps. I think it also would be good fun and a change from flying or ATC in VATSIM as you can be a ground vehicle. But overall what do you think? Tom

As a general rule, VATSIM does not allow AI traffic or otherwise on their network, so I am not sure they would be very keen on the idea.It would be better off for a pilot to get the airport taxi charts or programs such as FS Commander can help as it shows the current aircraft position along with all the taxiways labelled so that they can taxi to the appropriate gate.My 2 cents...
