November 15, 200322 yr Hello all, I have a pretty old machine that I have been running FS2002 and FS9 on. So far my performance has been ok but nothing near what it could be with a newer system. I will be getting a new high end system in the next month but will only be using it for work and not simming. My queston to you is will a new graphics card make much of a difference on my existing system, and what type of card would be good for my current system? Some of my specs are as follows:Pentium III256MB863MHzGeForce2 MX/MX 400I understand that my system is out dated but I would still like to know if I can do anything to get more performance short of buying a new system for simming alone. Oh yeah 256MB is the max RAM for my computer.;( Thanks in advance for your help!Galant VR4
November 15, 200322 yr I can't comment on whether a new card would help on a 863Mhz machinebut I was running COF on a 2Ghz with the same card as yours for about a month. What made an 8 or 9 FPS difference was to use 16 bit color. The GF2 seemed to favor 1600x1200x16 for some reason. No kidding! Give it a try if you haven't already.
November 16, 200322 yr Well I took a look at my setup and changed to 16bit color. This did help a little bit but I did not see an option for 1600x1200x16.
November 16, 200322 yr So it looks like the monitor doesn't run 1600x1200. I did a short post on this a couple of months ago. It was a quite a surprise to me that 1600x1200x16 would have that kind of an effect on the GF2 because some of the other resolutions I ran at 16 bit color gave worse FPS than with 32 bit and others had no affect at all.Do a search on author Bob Z and it's in the Sep 10th thread.
