PSS Dash 8 callsigns

Featured Replies

Cool aircraft, and very well presented sim, I've even managed to understand the FMS, however I don't know about anyone else but I think OELTN is a very uncool callsign! :-roll I found that by opening the airline config file in FS2002, you can add new airline callsigns, and they do work with all my other third party aircraft, but sadly not the Dash.I run the Dash 8 in FS2002, I tried to change the callsign and flight number in the aircraft selection area of the program, and although the flight number changes, I just cannot get the ATC callsigns to work. This is odd as I have no problem with other third party aircraft I have.I have looked at the aircraft config file, and compared it with the other aircraft I have, and found an entry called "atc_airline" followed by the airline callsign, such as British Airways' "Speedbird". Could I add this line to some of the aircraft in PSS Dash 8 without inflicting damage on the whole program?Any help is gratefully received!Cheers:-beerchug

Hi planejunky,What you are trying to do can be done within the aircraft.cfg file by editing it with Notepad or any text editor. Recommend you back it up first and rename the backup as "aircraft_orig" or some name that makes sense to you. However, you didn't say the airline name. Most of the currently operating airlines are included in FS2002. They are not in airlines.cfg. They reside in another large file (whose name escapes me) that can only be edited with a program called EditVoicePack.I have an airline list from another site that may help you. Go to www.fsgateway.com and select "Tips", then "FSVC Tips and Tricks", then "Air Traffic Control" and look for "Airlines Recognized by ATC". That was the path seven months ago; it should be about the same today. Most airlines are recognized in FS2002 by their common name. For example, United Airlines must be designated as "United", not "United Airlines" (without the quotes). Only a few like British Air and Aer Lingus are designated by their accepted names of Speed Bird and Shamrock.Ask more questions if you have them, and please let us know if any of this was helpful.Cheers,JerryH

Hi JerryH,Thanks for the info, it's most helpful.I've found 2002 a bit different to 98/2000 in the fact that multible aircraft are added into one file, i.e there are many liveries within the program, bit only one aircraft config file. Slightly different than what I'm used to, but it keeps us all interested! :D I tried to attach Speedbird to the BA Dash 8, but it ATC won't name it, i.e if you call the flight "Speedbird 912" ATC will only call the flight number "912" not the callsign, I think that's clear! You mention that most real world callsigns are recognised, however I appear to have only the default naf callsigns such as "Soar" on the drop down list in the program. I recently added Lufthansa into the airlines config, for use with my Dornier 328 and it seemed to be fine. Interesting you mention United, as we recently flew from Heathrow to Chicago and back with United on 777's, and you can listen to all the ATC through the headphones! I'll give the website a look and see what I can find.Cheers again for the help

Planejunky,I don't think anything is wrong with your airline.cfg file. Mine is the same, with only a dozen or so goofy airline names. I've read somewhere that the airline file is useless and might as well be used to write a note to your grandmother. The names of all airlines, airports, aircraft types and models are actually in a large file "FS2002Soundusenglishbig.gvp" that can only be revised by running EditVoicePack. This file contains about 200 airline names.Lets at least try to fix your BA Dash 8 by editing the aircraft.cfg so it reads as follows:atc_airline=Speed Bird (2 words)atc_flight_number=912Below this, under the "General" category:atc_type=DeHavillandatc_model=DH8A (ATC response should be "Dash 8")I believe the "DeHavilland Dash 8" will only be heard under a few situations, such as when you request Flight Following.Give this a shot and let me know if it works. In the meantime, I'll try to figure out where I downloaded the lists of atc_type and atc_model.Cheers,JerryH

Hi again,Got the list from the website you mentioned, very useful information to have. The BA Dash is now flying as Speed Bird, as is the Lufthansa, and Qantas aircraft. I have downloaded the VoiceEdit program you mentioned, however I will need to download another 23mb program called Microsoft.NET Framework 1.0 Redistributable from Microsoft before I can run it. This poses a bit of a problem as I only have a 56k modem, and it will take ten years to download it!:( I'll see if I can get the MS program downloaded as a friend of mine has an ADSL connection, much easier than the ole 56k! Thanks for the info of how to shorten "DeHavilland Dash 8" to "Dash 8", it's not as longwinded!Cheers again my friend, owe you a virtual beer or two!!!:-beerchug

Thanks for the beer. I needed one of them at the very least.I recently decided to try to add some airline names so I downloaded both EditVoicePack and the Microsoft.NET file. Never could get it to run. I don't think .NET installed properly, but can't be sure. Since I'm running Win98SE, I thought it prudent to just give up after searching the MS Knowledge Base and several forums. You will probably have better luck.Back to your subject. I located more voice info at the AvSim File Library. Searched the FS2002 category for "ATC airlines" and found a file named "fs2k2atcv2.zip". It contains all airlines as well as the types and models. Models are especially important because the sim will respond only to certain words (not always logical) such as DH8A resulting in Dash 8. We're probably about finished with this thread, but if anything else comes up don't hesitate to add another message. And I'll keep my eye out for a Dash 8 in Speed Bird livery.Regards,JerryH
