November 18, 200322 yr I am thinking about a new videocard because of the graphics isssues that I have with 64mb. I have tried to improve the quality of the graphics with my megascenery by going into the fs9.cfg and changing the values, and it still seems to degrade so I guess I am thinking that 64mb isn't big enough. I would like to get a videocard for today and tomorrow meaning it will work nicely with fs2004, fs2006, and hopefully to fs2008. I am looking for a little advice of what you think about this card.http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/Product...4&page=externalI am ordering it through Dell and I probably will have them install it because I am not a hardware wizard and I don't want to void my warranty on my system. What I like about it is that it says "high intensity gaming" which means it could handle alot of the demands of fs9 and the large megabytes of Ram it has. If there are others that are better tell me. I am thinking about the 256mb range.Thank You,
November 19, 200322 yr I think for what Dell is going to charge you for that, you could get a very nice Radeon 97000 Pro 128 model which you will find a dramatic improvment over your current card - and better performance than this card. A couple of things. If you can open your computer case and unscrew one little screw, you can change your own video card. It isn't hard and you don't need Dell to do it. Just make sure you have a the drivers handy when you boot up again and you will be fine. If you are intimidated, I am sure a quick google search will give you over 10,000 hits where you will find step-by-step instructions. Second - Dell makes a killing selling upgrades to their machines at outrageous mark ups. Visit a site like Newegg.com and do some comparision shopping. The fact is Dell wants you to believe that upgrading your machine is not a good idea so you buy a brand new one every year or so. Thus, they try to discourage you by making upgrading expensive. Ignore them. I am driving an old Dell 8100 - I've upgraded the video card from the 64 meg GeForce that came with it to the Radeon 9700; I've upgraded the CPU from 1.4 megs to 2.6 - I have an adapter that adapts the early p4 socket to the later configuration. And I've tripled the memory. All were purchased from reputable vendors - not dell. And the machine works just fine. Very good chipset on those early P4 motherboards. Third - visit Tom's Hardware Guide so you can get unbiased reviews and comparisons of video cards. This will help you figure out what card will deliver the very most for what you want to spend. You will be very happy with a new card in either the Radeon 9700 or 9800 series.
