The difference in image formats?

I see a lot of people saving their livery files as extended 32bit 888-8 and not as DXT3. What difference in quality is there really between these two formats? One format is much bigger in file size as the other, so there must be a quality difference, but it's very hard to see, I think.ThanksMikkel
