OT: Visible Earth - The Blue Marble Archives

Hey all,Ran across a NASA site that had some of the most spectacular whole-earth photo's I've ever seen. Not quite FS related, but any flight fan will enjoy these on the desktop. A quote from their site:"(These) spectacular

Elrond, they're absolutely amazing. It's a timely reminder that, despite the death and destruction that dominates the news, we live on a world that is stunningly beautiful. By the way, the Orbiter spaceflight sim uses versions of the Blue Marble textures. Look about halfway down on the gallery page: http://www.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/~martins/orbit/gallery.html Best regards, Chris

Hi Chris,Indeed, that is a reminder thats more than needed in these troubled times.I love Orbiter, its a great sim. Since its clear you do as well, I'm sure you're aware of the Celestia sim (not a flight sim per se, but a planetary/galaxy/universe sim). It too uses the Blue Marble texture sets for earth (including the city lights for night) and is truly stunning if you add in the highest res versions. For any other readers here, I highly recommend checking out both Orbiter and Celestia: some of the best examples of freeware and Free Software available in the world.http://www.shatters.net/celestia/Take care Chris,Elrond
