November 24, 200322 yr Hi Could someone explain in what units the fuel scalar is measured in? Ie what do I have to adjust it by to say increase fuel burn by 1%?Thanks
November 24, 200322 yr Hello,it is a dimensionless multiplier.If the default SFC is 0.5 h^11 gives 0.52 " 1.00.5 " 0.25 etcNB the default is 0.7 for Concorde.also afterburners are differentIan
November 24, 200322 yr Douglas, Does the adjustment of these values only alter fuel burn, or are other engine parameters affected? I was told that increasing the fuel flow scalar would also increase thrust output, is this correct? Regards,Andrew[/font size]
November 25, 200322 yr Andrew,The aircraft.cfg file fuel flow scalar and its relationship to the corresponding airfile tables is a complex subject and goes far beyond simply scaling an existing fuel flow value up or down as a percentage of the original value. Ian has provided the correct info in his reply; I merely wanted to give Tomas the answer to his 1% question. The answer to your question is no, the fuel flow scalar doesn't affect thrust. It is related to specific fuel consumption for turbines. The fuel_flow_scalar=XX should be set above 1.0 for turbines, that equates to an SFC 0f 0.5. The formula is SFC=fuel_flow_scalar/2. Thus a fuel flow scalar set to 1.4 would yield an SFC of 0.7 and so on.For Recips, it adjusts fuel flow vs HP and I always leave it at 1.0 as that usually results in an SFC close to 0.46 at the optimum mixture setting after I have the power output set the way it should be.Ron Freimuth covers all this and much more in his excellent "Comments on aircraft.cfg". You can get it here:http://perso.wanadoo.fr/hsors/FS_Soft/fsdocs.htmlThere are power and thrust scalars in the aircraft.cfg file that will work to adjust HP and thrust output, or the airfile tables can be edited to accomplish a higher fidelity modeling of real aircraft engines. Information on how to accomplish this is available here:http://www.avhistory.org/scripts/MegaBBS/f...w.asp?forumid=5Just use the forum search function.:)
