CRJ wing views...

Featured Replies

Anyone know of ones that are 'ready to go' or where I could get some pics of wing views that I could modify? Thanks, Adam

Project OpenSky's CRJ has wing views.... One slight issue with that model--the ailerons don't animate in the wing views. I believe the person who built the model moved on shortly after the project's completion. It's still the best CRJ going until Feelthere finishes their payware 200/700/900 series....-John

Oh OK John. Thanks.I'm using an older PoskyCRJ - AirCanada from FS2002. Do all the new one's (for FS2004) have wing views? And if so, how do you activate the view? It there a key assignment? Thanks, Adam

I believe the older PoSky for FS2002 is the current mdl... Any FS2004 updates that have been released should be related to the panel. The most current CRJ from POSky is a GMAX model, with reflective textures and dynamic shine in addition to the wing views. It can be found literally all over the place. I enjoy the AWE version--although now that I have my own Citation (virtual, that is), I fly that almost all the time for jet hops... Just uploaded to the library over the past few days is a file which sets up the wing views for many popular aircraft--don't recall whether the CRJ was among them. The wing view doesn't have to be activated per se' You just need to adjust the viewpoint, prefarably through the panel config, so when you look to the sides the wing is where you want it to be. Some (myself included) simply adjust the eyepoint...-John

Hi John,I downloaded one of the repaints for fs2004 and I see no wing views. Can you be specific about which ac/panel I should get?I did find a jpg - a nice one I might add - on the net that I would like to make into a wing view for the crj. I would need guidance of course. I cropped out all the scenery and did some touchup with Paint. It looks quite good IMO, but I would need to consult people in the ac/panel designer forum to proceed.Anyway, thanks, Adam

If you have the GMAX model, the one with reflective textures and dynamic shine, the wing views are there...Try this simple test....Go to the aircraft.cfg, find a line called eyepoint.... Copy it to a new line, and place two forward slashes "//" in front of the first line. Then change the first number in the eyepoint line to 0, which puts your eyepoint right on the COG....roughly over the wing. If you don't see the wing when you look to either side, you have the wrong POSKY model... Here's a link to at least one of the GMAX models:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...acrp&DLID=31844You have to remember that aircraft with dynamic wing views normally don't show them if the eyepoint is set to locate the pilot in the cockpit. In an aircraft like the CRJ, with the wings as far aft as they are, the pilot would have to look over his/her shoulder, eyes as close to the window as possible, to catch a glimpse of the wing... Take a propjet like the EMB-120, and the pilot has an easier time of seeing the wing....The panel.cfg edit is a better way of fixing the viewpoint, since it doesn't move your eyepoint when looking forward away from the cockpit. Why is that important? Let's just say I'd hate to taxi to the gate if my viewpoint is 20 or 30 ft. aft of where it should be.... Sorry to say, I don't have a panel.cfg edit for the CRJ. As for using a static bmp, I suppose you can. But I think it'd be a waste of time when an aircraft like the POSKY CRJ already has what you're looking for. And you'd still have to edit the panel.cfg...

Hi John, Thanks for the info. I've been playing with the activecamera demo and it's impressive. I got the view I want. Is it possible to set up the eyepoint in the .cfg such that I could assign a key assignment to have an alternate passenger wing view and not screw up the nornmal view from the cockpit? I can do that with activecamera. The problem is that Posky uses the vc as forward left/right and side views. I lose these when I change the eyepoint. Thanks VM again,AdamAnd I agree, although the static bitmap I have looks better IMO, it doesn'nt have moving flaps which I like in the Posky crj.

Here's a link from someone who modified the IFDG 757 views using the panel.cfg method....Basically, you can set any of the standard "view" keys to look at the aircraft from any position and direction you'd like... You'll have to play with it and learn, but this is the most efficient and elegant approach to having wing views and a realistic cockpit perspective for ground operations... I should add that it works for aircraft like POSKY's which have the dynamic wing views built in. It won't get wing views on aircraft (Mike Stone's are a common example) where the designer feels the wing views aren't realistic, sacrifice performance, or aren't the domain of "real" pilots...http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=search

Thanks John, I'll follow the link you sent after work today. Just for fun I'm attaching a pic of the static wing for the crj. I did some cropping and touchups. I think it looks great but alas as you say, it's only static. It might get deleted from this forum.> ...or aren't the domain of "real" pilots...I agree I suppose, but I do get a kick out of watching instant replays from the wing view - watching the flaps and spoilers deploy.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/50611.jpg

That wing looks a heck of a lot better than the dynamic ones....Aside from watching flaps/spoilers/etc.... another reason I like dynamic vs. static wing views is found when panning. If I pan my view down, the wing doesn't in a static bmp... So you end up looking at the ground as if you're in a bank.... But if I needed a wing shot for a CRJ, you'd be the person I'd go to.... Great work!-John

Ha...thanks John. All I really did was crop out the scenery and add new edge lines to the wing. I got the pic from Andrew Lavigne who has a website with lots of pics. This is the low res version. He offered me the hi res one. It probably wouldn't mesh with FS as it would look too real in comparison. It's really fun actually - playing with Paint! I'm easily entertained. :D I also have a really nice shot from infront of the wing but it's a dusk shot and the colors would be all wrong. In any event, I wouldn't have the slightest clue at this point how to incorporate it into a model...but I'm learning lots. I've been playing a bit with modifying panels lately and enjoying it.Adam
