Out of memory message FS9.exe

Featured Replies

More often these day, I run into the message "your computer does not have enough memory to run flight simulator".This is occurring only when accessing FS9.exe (504kb).I have 1.5mb system memory and GF5600 256 video memory. should be no problem and no other programs running in the background. I usuaaly notice this after adding new scenery, aircraft or panels. Then FS9 gets cantankerous and refuses to run. At some point later I can get in.I can run otherwise normally (1362kb)Any help is appreciated

This is likely to happen if you have a bad scenery file....If you get one of these errors and FS9 won't start, do a search on the FS9 folder (and all of its subfolders) for "scenery.dat"....When the search is done, sort the files (there will be many) by date. The most recent one will likely point you to the scenery folder causing the issue...find the cooresponding entry in the scenery.cfg and remove it. The out of memory errors most often happen when FS9 sees a change in a scenery bgl or folder. It builds these scenery.dat files as an index in that folder....which luckily leaves tracks behind that you can trace...Continued problems of this type may reveal a surface defect in your HD... You can do a full surface scan to get the O/S to mark questionable areas, so your COF files and data are stored in an area less likely to become damaged. Your typical large capacity HD, even if it has one tenth of a pct of its area damaged, causes more than enough damaged sectors to give a program issues. And usually, it's as you add programs that the system runs into the issue.Anyway, this is just one area to look at.... Could be something different, but hope this helps...-John
