Captain Sim 727 VOR hold oscillation

Featured Replies

Hey guys,When I set the 727 on VOR hold, I experience sever oscillation left and right to my intended course. It eventually settles. I believe the intercept angle is too steep. Any ideas on how to fix it? I'm thinking correct the autopilot entries in the aircraft, cfg? Many thanks,Toni

Hi,I have the 727 also, and this was discussed a while ago. A former 727 pilot said that apparently this was how the VOR worked on the 727 and they would use the HDG lock instead in most cases.Mikkel

Really? Blimey. I'm glad I'm still alive to talk about it then... ;)Any FDE wizards know how to sort this?

I'm not exactly sure what you want to do? Do you want it to be able to track it more accurately? If so I would think that would be pretty much impossible, I would think that is hardcoded into the model, but I'm not sure.

Hello All,Yes, it's true, the autopilot on the '27' was not what it should have been, and the CS model portrays that very well. A lot of pilots I knew who flew the aircraft, (myself included), used the autopilot as a reference, and generally flew the aircraft by hand up to altitude and on approach.Once trimmed, the '27' is a wonderful aircraft to fly by hand if you understand its good and bad points. You stay from the negitive and use the positive the aircraft has to offer.Besides, it was one of the last, great examples of when a pilot had to be a pilot! Not taking anything from todays cockpit jockey's, as they still have to be in total control when somethng goes bad . . . and in these days of 'glass cockpit' aircraft, believe me, when it goes bad, it is quite terrible. However, I want to point out that by flying the bird by hand until you get to altitude, or upon descent, you become use to dealing with all the little problems on any aircraft which the AP usually takes care of . . . and your profeciency increases. Unfortunatly, most airlines have a cast in stone set of procedures which the pilot must follow as a general rule . . .making the AP do most of the work.I do fear high tech has taken some of the fun out of flying big jets, but at the same time has probably made them safer . . .but nothing is idiot proof . . . not if it is made by man.Best to all, and happy holidays,Clay
