New FSX PC in the near future...

Ok guys, I think it's time for me to perhaps start looking into building a new FSX machine. My current machine is 3 years old but my setup is not your normal FS setup.I am in the middle of building a B737-800 full size cockpit simulator and as such, my FS machine will display ONLY the scenery (no 2D/3D panels at all). I have other smaller PCs which take care of the B737-800 Sim-Avionics Suite being displayed on the Main Instrument Panel. With this being said, what would be a good PC for FSX using today's technology on a setup where FSX will only be used to display scenery and use a default B737-800 airfile?Just for comparison, here is what I have right now:Intel E8400 OC'ed to 3.60GHz4GB DDR2nVidia 280GTXSoundblaster X-Fi Extreme GamerWD 300GB HDDThanks for any help...BTW, I just need to build the PC itself. No monitor. No keyboard/mouse/speakers.I don't expect to be spoon fed but I really need some catching up to do with current technology (CPU, videocard, HDD, etc) and any help in the right direction would be great.

Are you using default scenery or payware ?If you are using payware scenery I suggest you get what I'm going to buy:i7 2600K and a good mobo, if you want to overclock you have to go with either the P67 or the Z68...( these mobos have the chipsets so that you can overclock )For the overclocking I suggest you get a good cooler: the H50 should do the trick...As for the GPU, I suggest you buy mid range graphics card considering that FSX is more of a CPU game than a GPU...( I have the GTX 480 which is quite good, but costs around 300-400 € ...)

Hi Thomas,Since I am building a full-size cockpit, I prefer stability over overclocking. As such, I don't plan on overclocking the CPU nor the GPU. With this being said, does it change your suggestions? Can I keep my 280GTX instead of buying a new one? As for the sceneries, I will be using stuff such as REX/UTX/GEX/FS Global 2010 and some Imaginesim sceneries...

In that case I would say: an I5 2500, an H67 board and a Spinpoint F3 1TB for the HDD. The GPU is ok, and you can always upgrade it later on if you ever need to

If you use that scenery all at once, I suggest you do a little bit of overclocking...so that you reach at least 4/4.3 ghz...like that you should be absolutely fine...But watch out for the CPU you buy if you want to overclock...don't make it end up like it just happened to me!! SERIOUSLY!!!

The guiding principle is 2D panels have little impact on FPS as compared to the hardware requirements for complex scenery with lots of scenery add-ons, sliders all to the right and lots of autogen. So the PC you are looking at is the standard high-end PC build that's being recommended in this firum.Cheers,- jahman.
