Dumbing down satellite images

Featured Replies

Dear allSome might find this interesting. Where I jumped in, in German: http://www.heise.de/tp/deutsch/inhalt/te/16369/1.htmlIt's basically about dumbing down of aerial and satellite pictures showing federal buildings at www.mapquest.com. The procedure is being refered to as 'UnEyeballing.' Watch out: following links contain a lot of imagery. Dial-up will take 5-8 minutes to load the entire pages. An org apparently monitoring satellite imagery is www.cryptome.org But this page doesn't work right now, at least for me. So I couldn't shed more light. Maybe somebody else can? However, this page: http://cryptome.org/tri-eyeballs.htm did work and contains some very pretty shots of D.C. This page: http://cryptome.org/seats-uneyeball.htm has some very interesting images too, including the Air Force 1 and Helicopter 1 hangar. It also contains examples of dumbed down areas such as the White House etc. To one extent it's understandable. But on the other hand, are we really going to allow a handful of evil-doers to serve as justification for this all? Is this not getting overly paranoid? Information is being restricted. I want to see Dick Cheneys Geraniums... Not to be able to, because a few handful could abuse such data, is lamentable. Maybe in FS, certain sceneries will be forbidden in the future? Or we'll fly over Dumbed Down Scenery (DDS)... Let's see, maybe Beverly Hills will be dumbed down? To be honest, I landed a chopper in Pamela's garden the other day, but her body guards told me to 'take' off... or they'll break my rotors! Being twice my size, I buzzed off... Or perhaps DDS already exists and I'm totally missing something again. Anyway. Thought some might find these shots interesting, as we're all about scenery to a certain extent... IMHO, scenery and appearance are the areas, where the biggest differences occur from one FS version (evolution) to the next. Take care everybodyJaap de Groot
