Conflicting ATC/ATIS frequencies

Featured Replies

While I was flying into Rabat this morning, I noticed something very odd. I had my radio tuned to Casablanca Approach (125.1 MHz, I think it was), but after I did that I was continuously receiving "automated weather observations" from two small airfields in the area (GMFM/Bassatine and GMSL/Sidi Slimane) which I could not get to stop. The problem was that these automated weather observations, which were apparently broadcast on the very same frequency as that of Casablanca Approach, clogged my radio channel completely, so I could not communicate with ATC any more.I was now thinking about using AFCAD 2 to change the offending frequencies for these two airfields, but am not sure which frequency entry from the comms list I should edit. There are two freqs listed for each airfield, both labeled as "ASOS", but what does that mean? As far as I could see, these acronyms are not explained in the AFCAD help files. Thanks for any kind of help! :D

Hi Dominik,Is it possible that Com1 is tuned to ATC frequency and Com2 is tuned to the ATIS frequency and "Both" s selected on the audio panel? This can be VERY confusing if you are flying a plane with a panel which only displays Com1! And especially if the panel does not display the audio selector! It happened to me while flying a GA bush plane with LIMITED avionics, in the extreme. To fix it, I loaded the C182 and changed "Both" to "Com1" on the audio panel, then reloaded the bush plane. Check it out. R-
