December 26, 200322 yr Hi all!At last my dad has agreed to install the graphics card of my dreams on the PC: the GeForce FX5200 128MB!!!!! It's the best I can afford at the moment and I've been waiting for it for a long time.Anyway, it says on the bax that it supports up to 8 AGP slots on the mobo, and we only have 4 on ours...what will that change in the performance of the card?Looking forward to hearing form ya!cya!Matti
December 26, 200322 yr I had to think hard there for a while to work out what you were talking about. Basically its not slots that you are talking about rather it is speed or transfer rate if you will. The card is capable of running video to your motherboard twice as fast as your board is capable of receiving it but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Should you decide to upgrade your motherboard in the future then I would recommend you get one which is also 8X AGP then your card can run at its best. At least thats the theory! I myself run an 8 x AGP card on a 4 x Mobo and it works fine.markyboy.
December 26, 200322 yr I'm the same Marky. I run an 8x card on a 4x board. The cards are backward compatible so it's not a problem. And if you do a search on the avsim boards there's a couple of posts to the effect that going to 8x on the board isn't that much of a boost. When you upgrade the board to an 800mhz FSB you'll get 8x then, but don't worry about it now...billg
December 26, 200322 yr I run an 8xAGP ATI on a 4xAGP motherboard. No need to upgrade your motherboard since many with 8xAGP motherboards run with it set on 4xAGP for stability reasons and some even report better performance at 4xAGP. 8xAGP is way overrated and not really used by any of today's software. Just a marketing gimmick.
December 27, 200322 yr Hi again! Thanks for the interest you showed. Whatever the performance of the card, it'll be a helluva change from our ANCIENT ATI Rage fury pro 32MB, which causes stutters half the time, and can't keep the 15 FPS limit I give it in FS2002 the second half... I've been told it'll boost my performance quite a bit. I run a 1200 Mhz Athlon with 512 RAM, so it's really only the g-card which was terrible...Thanks again!!!!Matti
