January 12, 200422 yr A little earlier someone asked for suggestion's for future item's that non-US user's would like to see.Well here in the UK the default ATC is definately NOT 'as real as it gets'- the biggest problem being the number of incorrect ATC calls and the differing terminolgy.I have recorded a complete 'UK English VoicePack' which gives me 'one English voice', that can be used either to provide a either an ATC or pilot's voice. This is a starting point for a complete 'UK English ATC' and many of the items of US terminolgy can be changed-ie 'closed traffic' can become 'local circuits','Class D airspace' can become 'controlled airspace' etc. However there are still many hard-coded ATC 'problems' that can't be easily overcome. For instance:1: The shortened version of a/c reg G-DAVE is not 'A-V-E' as in the US, but 'G-V-E' ie we need another 'callsign shortened' in the ATCVoicePack coding that gives the 'national identifier' first, then the 'last 2'.2: 'QFE' is not currently coded -only 'QNH'. 3: UK and others still measure altitude in millibars (ie 1013) not inches of mercury (29.92)-although with FS9 you can set millibar's on the altimeter, the ATC always gives you ins of mercury.4: We need say, a 'downwind'call from the pilot (doing 'circuits') and a 'final' call from ATC giving 'wind' info etcI think that there are so many examples of differing ATC usuage that a replacement for the default ATC is the only possible option for most non-US users, MS are never going to bring out other ATC versions. An add-on program like 'Cleared4 Take-Off' that came out for Fly! is really needed to replace the default ATC.I would love to record a comprehensive alternative ATC 'VoicePack' in many voices (that's my job) but it's such a big undertaking, with thousands of files to record I would need to make it payware. We could have say 'German English ATC' or 'Aussie English ATC' as well!I know other's will say don't bother with the FS9 ATC -go 'online' but being a 'GA pilot' I'm afraid that I haven't found VATSIM/UK to be a satisfactory substitute. So anybody fancy the 'coding' job, it would be a challenging task!DaveT
