Aircraft Weight & Optimum Altitude

Not sure if this discussed before but I've noticed that it is nigh on impossible to get optimum altitude of FL410 even with zero payload and just a couple ton of fuel. Also I've noticed that payload does not seem to affect optimum altitude i.e. does not change whether max payload or zero. Fuel load does affect as expected. Am I off the mark here or has anyone noticed this anomaly. Thanks in advance. Mark McNulty

Mark, Look in this forum TAT (Total Air Temperature) issues. Maybe it is your problem!

My TAT was within norms. -23c.
