Runway textures at night.....

Featured Replies

I was doing a flight last night and noticed that the runway textures were very bright, almost like the daytime runway textures with all the markings visible. It was about 10:00pm with no visible moon. I slewed above the airport and all the taxiways and runways were like this. I have never noticed this before. The runways/taxiways should not be visible at night, even with a full moon. I should only see the lighting. I haven't done a large amount of flying in FS9 due to computer issues but I just got a new one and I can't figure out why the airports look like this at night. I changed the dates around to see if it made a difference and it did a little bit, but the strange thing was that the textures were brightest during a NEW moon and darkest during a FULL moon:-hmmm Just wanted to see how other users were having their runways displayed at night. I currently have Chris Arringtons Night textures and AEU MX installed. I also have the Version 12 water textures by Peter Wilding. Thanks for any help!!EricDell 4600 2.66ghz512mb DDRGeForce FX 5200-128Windows XP Home

Hi Eric,This issue is somewhat subjective in nature. Even on nights without moonlight, I have seen impressions of the runway environment from altitude in real life. This usually happens in more populated areas and larger airports as a result of the local ambient light levels. The trouble with a simulation such as FS is the fact that it has to be generic to best accommodate all possible scenarios. While the visible surfaces would look out of place at a small field in the mountains, the same cannot be said for a large metropolitan airport on a moon-lit night. It is my own opinion that the MS team has reached a suitable compromise in this area. Now, that said, if your runways appear to be WAY out of wack, you might try checking to see if you have all of the latest drivers installed for your video equipment. These can usually be found at the manufacture's web-site. You might be surprised at the difference this can make.Hope this helps! :)
