January 21, 200422 yr Anyone else come across the "V"-shaped depressions in Tanzania, Africa, almost due west of Dodoma(HTDO)? Location is about S6* 44.61' by E34* 3.46'. Anyone familiar with this area who knows if this is normal? I think its an anomaly and have made a 'fix'. If I thought there was enough interest, I would upload a copy to the Library.
January 21, 200422 yr hi!sorry, i don't know anything about v-shaped depressions in tanzania (i see them elsewhere, usualy following the edge of an srtm tile in a straight line all the way to the horizon), but considering your interest in the area, i thought i would ask... do you know a source of elevation data for africa? i've been looking for a nice detailed mesh or raw srtm data for a while... :(vilk
January 21, 200422 yr I do not know of such a source....I don't dabble in mesh. I'm aware of the anomalies usually around airports, but this particular one in Tanzania was discovered purely by accident...not as a result of any design project. I merely used a couple of flatten commands via Airport For Windows to make a correction.
January 21, 200422 yr Olduvai Gorge is in Tanzania. It's part of the Great Rift Valley that runs down through East Africa. Maybe this is what's displayed.http://en2.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olduvai_Gorge
January 21, 200422 yr Yes, I did see them too at the given location (S6* 44.61' E34* 3.46')But as someone pointed out, there are riffs in that region: north of Lake Eyasi and east of Lakes Manyara and Natron. However I am not sure whether this riffs are depicted in FS9.Jozef
January 21, 200422 yr Thanks for the link....it did get me doing a search for "Olduvai Gorge" which led to other links on the Web.I found a lot of info and it turned into an interesting discovery of the Country of Tamzania. It also led to a map of the Nation, and most important, it pinpoints the Gorge. If we use Dodoma as a referrence, the Gorge is almost due North; however, the anomaly I first mentioned is almost due West of Dodoma.I'm inclined to believe its a case of the seams between mesh terrain definition areas being wrong just like the person above stated.
