Paris and Microsoft...any significance?

Featured Replies

I'm just wondering, is there a special bond between Microsoft and Paris? Why do I ask? Look at Charles De Gaule aiport in FS9...notice how much more detailed than most others it is, and I just found that in a clean install of FS2002, that the same airport MUST be a third party piece of work....a totally different texture style, transparent windows showing departure lounges internaly, and even 'real' static aircraft...there's a few Lufthansas and KLM's dotted about. There's even taxiway and runway marker boards...something that was boasted about for FS9 as being a first!I know it's not important, and I aqpologise if this was covered a long time ago....it's just got me curious as why THIS airport over all others for the lavishing of detail!!

It must be third party. The Default CDG for FS2004 looked like any other non-photorealistic airport in the sim. Another dead giveaway are the static KLM and Lufthansa aircraft you mentioned. Microsoft doesn't use real liveries in their sims for some reason. If any airport is specially detailed in FS2002, it's Seattle-Tacoma but only because Microsoft HQ is based in Seattle.

Paris is more detailed than many airports, but it is by no means the only one. There must be at least a dozen of them that are up to this detail level now Seattle, Las Vegas, Heathrow, Hong Kong, Tokyo, etc. It is one of several airports to get custom buildings and textures by MS. I think you must have a third-party scenery installed, since my FS9 CDG airport does not have transparent windows and static aircraft.- Martin

Thanks for the replies folks....Shaka, The version with the transparent glass etc. is in FS2002, not FS9...it also has the KLM and Lufthansa sdtatics. In FS9 there's just a lot more airport 'machinery' around, and a large hotel....I know a few of the FS9 airpoorts are well detailed,m but it seems that CDG just got that extra special lick of paint!! :) And no.....neither are any add-ons that I've put in....as I said, the FS2002 is a fresh re-install, onto a different drive with only a few defaulkt aircraft textures added and the PSS A320, and.....oh JEEZ!! What a DUMMY!!! AAAARRGGHHHH!!! Sorry folks....I've just realised that the Aerosoft Commuter Airlines pack has a CDG replacement!! Damn...I forgot I put that in...BOY do I feel silly!!!Feel free mods, to remove this waste of a thread!! ;)Sorry.....shuffles to exit stage left, head hanging low with the weight of accute embarrasment.....

Actually CDG was one of the newly added photoreal airports in FS2004, bring the total to something like 24, if memory serves.

Would I be correct in saying that the default CDG in fs2004 has all it's buildings stretched in the vertical direction? The Boeing 777's look like Embraer 170's when parked at the gates - very small!
