Multi-Monitor...No need to undock windows!

Featured Replies

Hello! After messing a little bit with the hardware acceleration when using two monitors I discovered something else related to getting windows over to the second monitor. You don't need to go to windowed mode to get other windows like the radio stack or GPS on the second monitor. This saves some time....1) Just drag the window, say the GPS for example, half way of the screen on the first monitor towards your second monitor.2) Next, do this for any other windows that you want to get over to the second monitor.3) Now just use your hat switch or view keys to look around the cockpit, say to the left out of the pilot window and then release the hat switch or keys so that you are looking forward again and your windows that were dragged half way off the screen should now be on the second monitor!4) Now move them were you like on the second monitor and your ready to go.No more having to go to windowed mode, then undock the window, and then go back to full screen mode. As all the multi-monitor users know, this gets old real quick.I have a slower PIII 1GHZ system using a Geforce 4 MX440 card with dual 17" monitors and this technique for getting my radios, gps, and other windows over to the second monitor is working for me.Hopefully this will also work for other multi-monitor users who wish to have their radios, GPS, ect. on the second monitor. This has nothing to do with the hardware acceleration issues, it's just something that I discovered while trying to improve my over-all multi-monitor performance.Happy Simming!Scott :-)ATP/CFII - KCOS, in the real aviation world.

ScottWhat I've been doing to move a window in full screen modeis press shift+2 say to bring up the radio stack, then move it more than halfway off screen toward second monitor, then press shift+2 twice, and the window appears on the other monitor. No undocking required but your way sounds a lot easier.ThanksDavid

I have used the second method several times, but with mixed results. Sometimes windows simply disappear. If the window appears on the second screen, FS9 has the tendency to crash in the following minutes. And I don't have any stability problems normally!Personally I consider FS9's multi-monitor support as totally broken and unusable. I first bought my second monitor especially for FS2002, but now I use it for "serious" work. Having Visual Studio .NET or 3D Studio Max on the left screen and the corresponding documentation on the right one is great. Maybe FS10 will have a working multi-monitor support again ...Just my 2c (EUR),VOlker :]
