January 31, 200422 yr No, I didn't go to Mars. ;)I recreated Lucky Lindy's solo flight from New York to Paris. I saved the flight 20 different times to be able to fly it. It was quite an experience. At one time I got down to 20 feet agl. Highest altitude was 9,800 feet (when the thunderstorm came).I've seen the Spirit, hanging in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington. But I had no idea how difficult it was to fly it. Bank too steep and you'll go into a steep dive. I almost went into the drink once! Guys and gals, in your quest for the different pilot ratings, don't neglect the Century of Flight section of FS9. It's very exciting to fly the aviator's original flightpath as closely as possible. Sure, some of the flights are very long, but you can always save your place, then pick up later where you left off. There was only one disappointment: When I finally touched down at Le Bourget, no crowds were there to rush the plane and carry me out on their shoulders. :(
January 31, 200422 yr Hi,I liked your story. :) I have to agree it sounds like it sure would be nice to have a crowd cheering you on after going through all that, as I'm sure that wasn't an easy task to accomplish!Cheers,Jim
February 1, 200422 yr Thanks, Jim. You should try it sometime yourself. When Lindbergh landed at Le Bourget, the crowds rushed his plane, tens of thousands of them. They pressed so closely they slightly damaged a part of the plane, I forget which part.
February 1, 200422 yr A regain that little bit of experience, you might wanna try Lucky Lindy addon of Lago which has some nice 'time accurate'sceneries for the NY and Paris airfields, compleet with crowds and old cars with headlights..very nice!Rob "Holland&Holland" de Vries http://www.emotipad.com/emoticons/Flying.gif"To go up, pull the stick back. To go down, pull the stick back harder"
