February 4, 200422 yr My PC has got fairly low spec graphics, ATi Radeon 7000 onboard using 128Mb of system memory.Despite this, FS9 has been installed as has DirectX 9. (Well, I think DirectX 9 has been installed, it's impossible to tell!) FS9 works credibly well, enough to keep me happy anyway. However, the Water Textures do not display properly, i.e. they are static textures with no reflections or animation.Apart from getting a new graphics card (which is a consideration) can anyone suggest anything? Also, can anyone recommend replacement textures that might improve the appearance? I have a situation of improved terrain/autogen etc, but water which harks back to FS2000!!!Also, because the graphics are "on-board" the drivers cannot be updated. Thanks in advanceThe rest of the PC's spec is AMD Athlon 2200XP, 512Mb RAM with 128Mb shared with graphics, 120Gb HDD, Windows XP Home.
February 4, 200422 yr Your "problem" is the graphics card. It isnt what is called DirectX 9 compatible. To my recollection its hardly DirectX 8 compatiple. It will work, as you know, but certain effects that are for DX9 cards wont show up such as water ripple effects.
February 4, 200422 yr Can anyone confirm that the graphics card GeForce 2 GTS 32MB isn't even DirectX8 compatible? This is the way I've figured it out.
February 4, 200422 yr @JDH, sorry I forgot to reply concerning the water texture choice. In terms of getting water to look less baby-blue'ish, Im using a textureset called waterzone.zip by Pete Drazzof. Its a mixture of previous released sets from other authors as I understand it. I cant guarantee it will look smashing on a non-DX9 card. You can get it here: http://library.avsim.net/search.php?Search...=Root&Go=Search@efva2002; To see what newer cards are of what generation DX, check out this table from Toms Hardware:http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/index.htmlThe GF2 isnt on there, but I am quite sure its DX7 generation.
